Market Closed

Market Closed

Typically, when the market closes the space out front becomes a
parking lot, but during the Fete de Musique yesterday, the space was
roped off, allowing me to snap this shot of a closed market sans
voitures or venders.

Line Dancing in France?

Yes. Probably the strangest thing we’ve seen thus far.

Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice

The National Day of Music (and Father’s Day) comes to a close in La
Rochelle as the sun finally sets around 10:30pm. The music will
continue late into the night and well into the early morning hours as
the country celebrates the solstice in its very unique way. We saw so
many musical acts today it boggles the mind. Gregorian chants,
Reggae, Punk Rock, Senegalese, Brazillian and dozens more. Many
photos and videos to follow when I get a chance to compile them.
Until then, a bientot.

Field Trip to the Marche

Field Trip to the Marche

Emily’s French class spent Friday morning at the market. That’s her
teacher in the pink jacket. 3 swedes on the left, a german girl on
the right and 2 americans in the middle.

Bachelorette party

Bachelorette party

See that lady in the pink outfit the bunny ears? We think she’s
getting married soon. Tonight she was recruiting young men to use a
fishing pole to collect prizes. We watched for about 10 minutes.
Likely a cute traditional "hen night" custom.

La Plage

La Plage

This isn’t our local beach. It’s a couple kilometers from town. We
biked there to check it out. They have bigger waves than we do, but
they’re still rather petite. You can’t tell from this photo, but
below the rocks are hundreds of very tanned people basking in the sun.

Moments earlier she had run over a snake, accidentally. He slithered
away, but didn’t seem pleased by the event.

Odd Structure

a picture for you

During our bike ride along the coast we came across this odd structure. We’re not sure what it is or how old it is as there was no sign or information.
